60's 70's Framus Gaucho

If you have a string instrument of any kind that needs fixing, a mistake you made in building a new instrument that you need to "disappear," or a question about the ethics of altering an older instrument, ask here. Please note that it will be much easier for us to help you decide on the best repair method if you post some pictures of the problem.

60's 70's Framus Gaucho

Post by James Pechacek »

I was presented with A 60's 70's Framus Gaucho that had the bridge torn off by string tension.

When you look inside you see that there never had been a bridge plate, and that one of the peg holes was drilled right through a brace, destroying it.

.

The internal bracing is for a classical guitar. The neck is heavy as heck and straight as an arrow. The body of the guitar is not bellied. Should I scavenge this, or could I do some experiments? I could put on a tie on bridge. And go with nylon strings. Put a hardtail on it with a floating bridge. Would it be possible to splint a brace with carbon fiber?

It’s not worth anything. Experiment away.
