MIMF

I am looking to build a headless travel guitar. I was thinking of putting a headphone jack to get a more guitar like but was thinking of a "preamp" to drive the headphones or earbuds. Some of the simpler boost pedals have very few parts and lok like they can be made to fit in a guitar discreetly. Any advise? would 9v blow out earbuds?
