September giveaway

Post by Charlie Schultz »

Hi everybody,

Steve Senseney made and donated six of these clever jigs to the MIMF (many thanks again Steve!). I'll offer the *last two* up for a giveaway (including worldwide shipping) this month to a (legitimately) registered MIMF member. Here's how it works:
- If you're interested, reply to this discussion
- I'll assign a number to everyone that responds (duplicate entries and bogus user names will be ignored)
- On or shortly after October 1st, we'll use an on-line random number generator to pick *two* winners

From Steve:
These are for working on nuts. I suppose you could work on saddles also, but I haven't really used them for this purpose.

I made one quite a long time ago, out of some scrap wood. I made a series of these for the MIMF.

The magnet keeps the nut in place while you place the entire outfit in a vise.

I don't have the "Parrot" type of vise.

I use a steel vise for things I need clamped and held well.

The outside magnet has two functions. I can place the clamp on the steel cabinet that I have next to my work area for storage.

The second function is that the outside magnet is set at the right height to hold the clamp in place in my steel vise.

For my purposes, it works quite well.

Of course, it is osage.

Fantastic - the last thing I did before calling it quits last night was to remove an old train wreck of a nut off a 60s era twelve string. Looks like I'll be cutting its replacement in style. Thank you Steve!

Many thanks indeed :) I'm in the middle of a house move, so my workshop won't be unpacked till January at the earliest, but I shall look forward to using it for the projects currently on hold.
Cheers,
Adam
