I work with many skilled trades. They are generally referred to as tradespeople, tradesmen, journeymen (insert trade name here) and apprentices, craft labour, craftsmen or skilled labour. Having said that, Alberta and most of the other provinces have a very robust apprenticeship system that includes compulsory and non-compulsory trades. Titles are as per government regulations. A "red seal" indicates that a compulsory journeyman has taken an exam that then allows him to legally work in a compulsory trade in any Canadian Province. Yeah I know, too much info. :)
