How to make a piezo saddle stop sounding like a toy guitar?

Hey!
I really dislike piezo undersaddle, they sound like 8bit toy to me, but my friends who use pickup systems that have internal or soundhole microphone said most sound tech guys don't know how to work with it, in the smallers bars, because of the extra bottom end. (To be fair, must live music bars here doesn't even have a tech, the barman does it, barely...)

Is there a preamp or something like that that really makes sound like a decent inatrument?
