Repairing a tobacco burst on a 25/50. Moved coil tap

I have a 1979 25/50 Les Paul custom that I am doing a repair on. It had a bigsby on it and the coil tap was moved. I found some similar grained maple and used it to plug the hole.
My question is repairing the tobacco burst where the hole was. I tried the stew Mac pens but the feathering is very prominent right where the hole was.
My thought was to air brush and add another layer of lacquer to seal it. Just get the air brush dialed in and hit that one spot.
Any other thoughts or tips on this one?
