Metal resonator "Body only" or damaged for parts instrument for sale

Hi, Looking to build my own National style O or Duolian type guitar. I've built wood biscuit bridge and spider (square neck) guitars before but want a metal one for personal use. Can't seem to get an answer from National as to whether I purchase the body only and have been scouring for either "...

Re: Looking for ultra low tension plunger dial indicator

Thanks Barry! I did not notice that before. Of course, SM charges twice of what something is worth (or more) but it's good to know there is a solution if all else fails. I mean really. $45 for the indicator and ANOTHER $45 if you want the inch cube of brass that you could grind and drill out in 15 m...

Re: Looking for ultra low tension plunger dial indicator

Brian, I've tried long plungers but kind if surmised that the shorter shaft is going to have less tension. I have another of the version I'm having trouble with and I think I'll be doing some surgery to see whats what inside. I've been in them before. looks like the inside of a watch. But, it's dead...

Re: Looking for ultra low tension plunger dial ndicator

Certainly someone must use the SM version? Is there a brand on the indicator?

Re: Looking for ultra low tension plunger dial ndicator

I returned all of them but the thought did occur to me. After all, I am a luthier so I can't just keep buying and collecting until the right one comes along. Which reminds me of an old joke one of luthier friends was fond of: Whats; the difference between a luthier and a cheese pizza? Anyone? I can'...

Looking for ultra low tension plunger dial indicator

Hello, When a certain company came out with a string hight indicator, (which they now suggest is only for nut slotting...it's also great for measuring string height at any fret) I found it intriguting and ended up making my own for about 20 bucks. Brass, dial and all. I've used it to great effect fo...

Re: Les Paul Gold Top Shattered Neck II

And yes, I do htink that would be a worthwhile subforum. I've sold guitars in every way by hook or by crook. Can't say one REALLY? stands out so it would be nice to hear where others find success!

Re: Les Paul Gold Top Shattered Neck II

Off topic but I haven't been on the site for about 15 years: I'm looking for advice as to what webpage designer I should use. I built my original one with apple software that is dead and gone (the company is rapidly going down hill since Steve left us). No support, no nothing. So it's been many year...

Re: Les Paul Gold Top Shattered Neck II

I have used an artist's pallet blade (H have a small one and one about the size of 1/3 of my phone. I have never used it as the primary method BUT as I'm lifting the fingerboard and I start worrying about too much force, I have a torch handy, heat up the knife and in nearly every case it has gotten ...

Re: Les Paul Gold Top Shattered Neck II

Good thing I've been drunk for a couple days. You, Barry, also make sense. I believe I will use a combination of the two methods. I'm currently in the process of making a thin heat iron from scratch. (No disrespect, but eff those pirates at Stew-Mac. I mean, really, a hundred bucks for a block of al...

Re: Les Paul Gold Top Shattered Neck II

Thanks! It’s VeryLikely a case of our Occam’s Razor. I’ve been conspiring and planning all kinds of complicated ways to do this but you, my friend, I think you just got the bell “ding-ding-ding” andhit the nail on the head. That means will be seeing you next week on “Mike’s gGot an Incredibly Stupid...

Re: Les Paul Gold Top Shattered Neck II

Well, I have a small bridge heat blanket that could fit in the middle of the fretboard, I also have a hobby iron which is just about as wide as the neck. The neck heat blanket is wide enough to cover the entire neck. It IS tapered, so perhaps I can use the narrow end on the high frets and slowly mov...

Re: Les Paul Gold Top Shattered Neck II

I’ve removed dozens of fretboards (wood) bound and unbound (mostly) but have not removed a boltron or other plastic bound fretboard. Am I doomed to re-bind with “aged” plastic or can I successfully remove the whole kit and kaboodle intact. Neck removal = heat. Heat + plastic = no bueno. I, to have t...

Les Paul Gold Top Shattered Neck

Hello, I'm an experienced luthier (23 years). I have managed several repairs as well because, as you know, 23 years doesn't come without numerous mistakes. I've successfully repaired holes in the back and sides, snapped off headstocks, broken truss rod replacement, etc. I inherited this guitar from ...
