Re: Steel & vinegar ebonizing
Hey, this guy from Brazil has 3 videos explaining how he does it and it worked even on pinus. One is talking only and 2 is showing how it's done, I'll put it here, but it's in portuguese, don't know if there is a closed caption to translate to english... Basically: he add the iron and alcohol in a j...

Re: Steel & vinegar ebonizing
Thanks guys, will think another way... It's an archtop top I bought that has a very dark wide streak in the middle, like 2" on each side and it needs to have a solid finish, but I don't know anyone here in Brazil near my place that makes finish in acoustics and there is that stuff about 0.02&qu...

Steel & vinegar ebonizing
Hello!
Have someone make this way of ebonizing wood?
Let the steel in the vinegar for some days and then applying in the wood?
Does it change the resistance of the wood?
I was thinking in use it in a soundboard, but I imagine it would change a lot the wood
Thanks

How does soundhole size affects tone? PTII
Hello! I was searching in the archives about soundhole size and found this nice thread: https://www.mimf.com/library/How_Does_Soundhole_Size_Affect_Tone_-12-22-2007.html But I've a question that is not answered there (a stupid one, for sure): How much can I change the size of the soundhole with no c...

How to make a piezo saddle stop sounding like a toy guitar?
Hey! I really dislike piezo undersaddle, they sound like 8bit toy to me, but my friends who use pickup systems that have internal or soundhole microphone said most sound tech guys don't know how to work with it, in the smallers bars, because of the extra bottom end. (To be fair, must live music bars...

Re: Guild 12 strings
Thank you very much for the info, it's really detailed and knowledgeable.
That extra tone bar is on that couple behind the bridge?
How do you find it? Never heard of it.
But I'm pretty much saving this posts for posterity

Carbon fiber bridge plate
Hello!
Has anyone used a carbon fiber sheet as bridge plate instead of wood?
Or a sandwich of carbon with wood?

Guild 12 strings
I saw an article about the Guild 12 strings guitar, that Page, May, Vaughan and a lot of heavyweight players preferred them and that they are one of the best 12 strings made. Does anybody has experience with them? What would be the major design aspects that made them a really good guitar? Is there a...

Do you think Redwood would hold the pressure of a 12 strings?
Either in flat-top and archtop.

Bridge design
Hello people! Happy New Year, everyone!!! I'm thinking in design a bridge that goes on the this way (would have some thin details, but structurally would be this) But I heard that there are some requirements, like the outer parts need to be over the X bracings, things like this. What do I need to ob...

Soundboard woods
Hello! I've a J45 I've built with Sitka/Limba that I've built on a course and am planning to try to steel build by my own, my idea is to do something different wood wise, to have a different tone. I'm thinking Redwood or Red Cedar or other kind of cedar like Port Orford or Alaskan Yellow for the sou...

Laminated neck - with or without scarf joint?
Hello! I've found that laminated necks are waaaaay more stable than one piece neck, specially with soft woods like mahogany and cedar. My electric with 3 pieces mahogany and carbon fiber doesn't need to get almost no tuning, while my 1 piece mahogany acoustic, the tuning changes like the wind change...

Re: Semi hollowbody factories
Thanks! I don't have any tools to do bent laminated top and back, like the 335, don't even know how. Bought a book about "how to build your laminated archtop" the guy literally spent two paragraphs NOT explaining how to do it and the rest of the book was just the same of the Benedetto's, b...

Semi hollowbody factories
Hello! I'm studying the possibility of making a line of semi hollow guitars to sell here, laminated top and back, central block like 335. I was thinking in talk with some factories about they making the body ready and I make the necks and install/assemble the guitar. Does anyone knows good factories...
