Re: What cured finish chalks up with lacquer thinner?

So...finding other anecdotes and rationale of this. Comports with Barry's experience, though seemingly not limited to cheap thinners. Sunnyside is a respectable product. I found this out when thinning high build nitrocellouse lacquer to get it to flow better using Sunnyside brand and had the surface...

Barry Daniels wrote: Sun Dec 05, 2021 1:00 pm We are talking about gluing the fretboard to the neck with epoxy, not the neck dovetail into the body. I think everyone would agree that epoxy should not be used for that.
One would hope. I was responding to Dick Hutchings who was asking about that application.

Re: What cured finish chalks up with lacquer thinner?

Thanks for the responses. Yeah, it's definitely not a nitro finish. At first glance I thought it was because of a couple small finish checks. (And what I thought was softening lacquer wasn't.) It's not TruOil - (which I wouldn't expect for a production guitar). Maybe a poly, or some sort of WB or co...

Re: removing epoxied fretboard

Makes me wonder if this wouldn't be the ideal glue for neck to body since only heat is required for removal. I stopped using steam pretty much altogether since switching to heat probes for dovetails. Cleaner, no finish blush, no swelling. Is there a glue that won't release with just heat? Seems to ...

Re: CAD modeling archtop guitars

Dean, check out Two Cherries instruments youtube channel. https://www.youtube.com/c/TwoCherriesIns He uses Fusion 360, but you still might find some information useful. I am struggling with Fusion right now myself trying to build a Les Paul. The CAM is driving me nuts. A lot of people use Fusion si...

Re: sanding sealer

Please Help!!! Mohawk has discontinued their Industrial Sanding Sealer (M610-1607) which I have been using for many decades. They have no recommended replacement for it other than their Vinyl Sealer which I use for other applications, but I really don't like it under guitar finishes. Their Industri...

What cured finish chalks up with lacquer thinner?

Was prepping to dropfill a ding on a Kronbauer. Was sure the finish was nitro, but when I dropped a bit of lacquer thinner into the spot to melt the cracked finish in the ding before dropfilling, the finish chalks up when the thinner dries up. I tried on an inconspicuous spot to confirm and get the ...

1/4" TRRS jack/connector

Confirming that no-one makes a 1/4" TRRS/4 pole endpin jack and connectors. Anyone know of anything?

I'm thinking about setting up another guitar with a K&K Pure Mini Solo (pickup/mic) and a Sunrise and trying to avoid putting a 5-pin jack or two 1/4" endpins.

Identify this Fender Jazz Neck

This is on my MIJ Jazz Bass. Think it's late 80s, early 90s. Was a replacement for the fretless neck that was originally on the bass. Anyone have any idea of its origin? Manufacturer? You can see that it's not a waterslide decal applied after the fact - it's all under the poly. Also note it's a roun...

At first glance thought it was a BulBul Tarang, but it sounds like a keyed hammered dulcimer. I'd guess Northern European. Spent the last hour scouring Google images to no avail.
