Re: Lathe made musical instruments

Intrigued by your idea. Tell me more about your design.
I've seen stuff about turning two banjo or uke necks simultaneously on a lathe, but nothing about mandolin type bodies on a lathe.
I turn banjo rims on a lathe. Are you talking about making the mandolin sides like a banjo rim?

Re: BANJOLELE REPAIR QUESTION

You're right, you'll have to remove the neck to get the old head off. The ring that the skin is wrapped around is called the flesh hoop (for whatever reason). To remove the neck, remove the screw in the end of the dowel stick. Most likely it is the shoe that the tail piece is hooked to. Then remove ...

Re: maybe nobody noticed: Peruvian walnut at Rockler

I saw it a week ago and considered buying some for banjo rims. Looked like nice wood and at a good price. But I have recently received some American walnut as part of a load from my lumber supplier in Wisconsin. He delivers to my driveway in Minneapolis.

Clay His name is Mike Gregory from Wisconsin. Here's his Banjo HangOut homepage: http://www.banjohangout.org/myhangout/home.asp?id=8805 He either routed or sawed channels across the neck for the bars to fit into and glued them in. But my memory is weak on this part. The BHO posting where he talked a...
