one more shatten thumbwheell wire up question

I feel Ive wired up the shatten t-2 correctly but The only way i have to test is to hookup an amp plug in and tap the pickup with a screw driver. My guitar is not completed so string ground is not completed. When I tap, and not touching, all is well, volume adjusts and tone adjusts ,but when i touch the pickup with my finger I get hum. Is this normal ? Suggestions ?? thanks

Plug it in & hold the pu near strings of ANY guitar....

Dave, I If im holding the pickup to put it up to any guitar I get hum !! already mentioned that plugged in volume and tone adjust fine. and when tapped with screwdriver!!I I know the pickup is getting signal and no hum. only when I touch the pickup with my finger do I get hum. the hum is the bugger here .
